NID to Release Hydrology, Water Supply and Demand Projections This Wednesday, NID will review the soon to be released hydrology, water supply and water demand projections for the District. Click here to review the full staff report. This data is designed to help NID manage their water supply and anticipate needs, such as a new dam like Centennial. The actual technical data will not be publicly available until this Thursday, August 27, 2020. Additionally, NID invites the public to comment on the water projections and will take comments until October 9, 2020. "Comments must be received by email or website per instructions [to be] provided on NID’s Plan For Water website. It is anticipated that a Board workshop will be held on or about October 28, 2020, to present and review the public’s comments for discussion." SYRCL applauds NID for encouraging public trust and transparency by releasing the data and providing a comment period to the public before incorporating it into important management plans such as the Raw Water Master Plan, Urban Water Management Plan or Agricultural Water Management Plan. Upon first review, the staff report leaves us with more questions than answers; we are hopeful Wednesday's meeting will provide clarification.
- How does the public submit comments to NID? There are currently no instructions on the Plan For Water website, other than the general comment form.
- How exactly are these projections incorporating the impacts our region is experiencing from climate change?
- The demand numbers are inconsistent with past documents. How did NID come up with these new water demand calculations?
This is an important process for our community to obtain a sustainable water future and a great time to listen in and become informed about critical planning information. To learn more and ask your own questions, join us virtually at the NID Meeting this Wednesday. |
