NID to Review Plan for Water Public Process This Wednesday, NID will review the public process to update the Raw Water Master Plan (RWMP), also known as the Plan for Water. NID hired Raftelis Consultants in Fall 2019, and now they have come back to the Board to present a proposed public engagement process to update the RWMP. As a reminder, this is the Plan that will update the District's hydrology and estimated water supply and demand needs. That information directly informs the environmental review process for Centennial Dam. For the past two years, SYRCL and Foothills Water Network have urged NID to be transparent, use the best available data, incorporate the impacts of climate change, involve the knowledge and resources of regulatory agencies, and include the public in this important management process. The draft Raftelis process is a step in the right direction, but we need more information about how the public's input will be incorporated into the final Plan, what data and modeling NID will be using and how stakeholders will be involved. On page 34 of the document, Raftelis recommends "that NID be committed to being responsive to new and emerging issues identified throughout the engagement process so that development of the Plan continues to progress." As our watershed and communities continue to adapt to the impacts of climate change, SYRCL applauds this recommendation and looks forward to learning more. Join us virtually this Wednesday. |
