NID Clarifies AWMP Comment Deadline and Schedules Additional Public Meeting Thank you to all Dam Watchdogs that gave public comment at the NID Board Meeting last week on Wednesday, March 8, 2021. In response to concerns, NID clarified that the comment deadline for their draft Agricultural Water Management Plan (AWMP) to the NID Board for the March 24, 2021 public hearing is unfortunately tomorrow, March 16, 2021 by 5 p.m. Additionally, despite this short timeline, NID did clarify that all public comments received prior to the meeting on March 24, 2021 will be included as as part of the final Plan submitted to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) by April 30, 2021. Finally, NID scheduled another meeting in the evening this week to give the public another opportunity to review the Plan. The public meeting will be held this Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 6 p.m. While SYRCL is disappointed the public does not have more time to review the Plan, we are grateful for the additional public meeting and clarification about how the comments will be received. As a reminder, the AWMP is an important tool to help NID improve efficiencies and provide information and a record to the public on the District's stewardship of our precious water resources. Additionally, the AWMP and Urban Water Management Plan will inform the update to the Raw Water Master Plan, also known as The Plan for Water, later this year. These Plans will guide NID in determining if our community needs additional water storage. It's essential these Plans include thorough and accurate data and modeling so that the community can understand our present and future water needs. SYRCL is still concerned about recent data and modeling in NID's Water Planning Projections because they were incomplete and seemed to inflate demand. It is still unclear to what extent the Water Planning Projections informed the AWMP. As a member of Foothills Water Network, SYRCL submitted comments on the Water Planning Projections in October 2020 and plans to submit comments on the draft AWMP as well. |
